Aberdeen Standard Investments names new Head for China
28 August 2017
Aberdeen Standard Investments is pleased to announce that Amy Wang will be joining on 1 September 2017 as general manager of its Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE) Aberdeen Asset Management (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., and its senior representative in China, based in Shanghai.
Amy, a Chinese national, educated in both China and the US, has long experience in China, having been chief representative for Franklin Templeton for a dozen years before joining Pioneer Investments in 2015. She previously worked in New York for ratings agency Fitch and as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.
Standard Life Investments has had a representative office in Beijing since 2002. Aberdeen Asset Management set up a representative office in Shanghai in 2008 and in 2015 established a WFOE in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lujiazui Financial City with the intention to submit applications to participate in the Qualified Domestic Limited Partnership programme and to obtain a Private Securities Fund Management registration. Amy’s immediate priority will be to help bring together the two China teams following the merger of their UK parent companies on 14 August 2017, to form Standard Life Aberdeen plc.
Amy will report to Ian Macdonald (Deputy Head of Asia Pacific) and Alexis Ng (Head of Distribution, Asia Pacific) in Singapore.
Ian Macdonald, Deputy Head of Asia Pacific of Aberdeen Standard Investments comments:
"We are delighted that Amy has decided to join us at this exciting time. Aberdeen was the first foreign firm to establish a WFOE with the ability to undertake onshore investment management. We are now keen to gain the necessary regulatory approvals which will help us to develop Aberdeen Standard Investments’ onshore business over the next 10-20 years. Amy’s leadership will be important as we continue along that path."
Alexis Ng, Head of Distribution, Asia Pacific of Aberdeen Standard Investments adds:
"Amy's deep knowledge and experience of the regulatory as well as market environment will be a benefit as we look to strengthen both our existing relationships with clients in China and build new ones – particularly among sovereign funds, financial institutions and insurance firms. Aberdeen Standard Investments is one of the leading global managers of insurance assets. We believe our size, breadth of investment capabilities and experience could be an important differentiating factor with prospective clients.”
